Okay, just one request this time:
Share a good memory that you have with Wendi.

One of my favorite memories with you, Wendi, is sitting still while you french-braided my hair multiple times. I don't know if the process was as fun as the result because of my sensitive head, but I felt so beautiful after you did that. People would always tell me how pretty my hair was, and I felt lucky that my big sister would take the time to do my hair.

I also remember visiting you at Weber State and going to Institute Chorale. I always felt so welcome with you and your friends. I never felt like a tag-along.

One more time I remember was in the airport when you left on your mission. I was so sad that you were going to be gone for so long, but I can say that your example did not go unnoticed. I was so glad to have the same opportunity to serve a mission years later.

Thanks for being you. I love you and hope your birthday is a fabulous one.

Hey, Wendi, can you believe that you are 40!!! Wow, that is something!! Where has the time gone? And I remember laughing with you a lot and you would ask me if my "n" necklace meant "nice" or "naughty" and we would laugh. And I remember asking you what life was really all about (as if I knew!!) and we would have fun with that. By the way, have you figured that out? I am still working on it. I guess that is what life is all about - trying to figure it out as we go. Well, I sure hope that you have an AWESOME birthday! I hope you get to do something FUN that you like to do. Take care Wendi, I love you lots and I hope you are well and that you enjoy this day.
Love, Nancy (the nice one today)

Wendi,
You share your birthday with my Timothy, so I don't forget your day! The first thing I remembered was stopping by your place in Iowa in 2004 and going swimming with our families. That was a great opportunity to visit, and we haven't had many of those in recent years. I remember when you were at Weber, and would drop by my house on your way up or down. We had some really great discussions! It seemed like we were all so busy then, and looking back it seems that life was sweet and easy in those days. I suppose age gives one rose-colored glasses sometimes. Have a marvelous birthday! I love you!

Wendi,
I remember you playing your instruments and espescially the piano. I have always loved hearing the piano. I hope you are having a wonderful birthday. Thank you for the well wishes on facebook the other day when I posted about the monster cough. I may be coming up in the next couple of months. It will be fun to see you again. Happy Birthday

Hey, Wendi! It sure has been fun making new memories with you lately! I'm glad we have found a way to help each other and visit at the same time. I remember how well you took care of my kids here in Alaska the summer after Kathryn was born when I was trying to finish my thesis. It was great being able to leave them in good hands and go somewhere quiet to work. I also remember when you came up after your mission and lived with us and helped out for awhile before you found your own place. And then getting to meet David and feeling what a good match you were and sharing in your happiness. My family has a new Christmas memory with your family this last year that they sure enjoyed. We had a lot of good laughs and fun. Have a great day and I'll see you soon!
Love, Sheri

Dear Wendi, I remember when you were born and Dad had just left on a trip. Adell and Wallace took me to the hospital and Adell checked with me to see if you had ten fingers and toes. We both agreed that you were a beautiful baby.

I loved teaching you to play the piano because you learned so quickly and seemed to enjoy it so much. You would play quite often and then later we played duets together and that was lots of fun for me, too, even though the music was quite simple at first.

You have so many talents. Almost anything you decide to do comes pretty easily to you when you apply yourself.

I hope you had a good day. Love, Mom

I wrote up a response on 2/28 but somehow it was lost. I wanted to mention that Wendi was the first newborn baby I truly consciously remember interacting with. Robert enjoyed playing with Wendi and I of course had to compete to get similar responses (smiles, laughs and coos) from the cute little baby. I think now that Wendi's addition to our family was what helped me finally accept Utah as my home. I remember missing California a lot. There's something about being around a newborn that refreshes and restarts life. I suppose I'm waxing poetic because of Jack having recently joined our (mine and Kris's) lives. Many other things could be written but I will only mention one more. Not long after her mission call I remember a conversation in the car in front of the Kearns house, when I was trying to help prepare her for the non-glamorous, "humdrum" or less Spiritually memorable, in-between times on a mission that I had experienced so that she wouldn't have a let down when such lulls happened. I'm sure I was a little too over-anxious or eager to give advise. I think I went on pontificating to the poor girl (captive audience) for over an hour and she patiently listened and appeared to respond and take me seriously. I think I was genuine in trying to share my experience for her good, but I later felt like I had overdone it, but she has been a good sport about that ever since. Oh, one last one: It was great to stop in at Wendi and David's house in Iowa on the way to Chicago to meet Kris's Mom in 2004. We got to stay the night and had a great time with the family (we were not yet married and I slept on an inflatable mattress and Kris slept in the girls room, I think) (?):) . The kids were so eager to play and talk with us. It was fun.

My first memory is finding out that Wendi was a girl!! Sheri and I had wanted a sister - and finally - she came! You are the first sibling that I remember really clearly being born. I was ecstatic.
I also remember you ended up living in the same house where Gary and I lived in the garage. I just drove by there the other day with Jessica to show her. It brought back I flood of memories of all of you coming up to see us there. I felt pretty honored that you wanted to go to Weber State. (I always assumed I might have had a little influence in that decision :0)
I love when I see the pillows you made my kids (yes, they are still floating around!) It is so fun for kids in a big family to get something that is personalized - thank you!!
I think you can thank Richard for the spelling of your name. He told mom and dad that we had to continue the 5 letter, ends in i tradition! I love you Wendi. Happy Belated Birthday!
